Tess Hogan
Founder & Head of Animal Care
I'm Tess Hogan, Founder and Head of Animal Care at Rise of the Pig. What began as a personal journey, living alongside pigs as companions, organically grew into a full-scale rescue operation, rehabilitation center and trusted resource for pig guardians across the country.
I’ve been a devoted pig guardian for over 20 years, and for the past decade, I’ve focused on rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming pigs. As Rise of the Pig evolved, I saw a growing need not only for safe havens for pigs, but also for guidance, support, and supplies for their guardians. Today, we not only provide lifelong care for pigs, but also offer a curated selection of products and a platform for learning and connection.
My background as a producer in the fashion and advertising industries gave me the tools to manage complex projects, coordinate moving parts, and build something from the ground up — all of which I’ve carried into this work. From organizing large-scale rescue operations to building educational initiatives for rescues/ sanctuaries and guardians, I’ve translated those skills into meaningful action for pigs.
At the core of everything I do is advocacy for the pig as a companion animal. Through forums, outreach, and hands-on education, I work to shift perceptions, promote responsible guardianship, and give pigs the respect and care they deserve.
This isn’t just rescue work — it’s my life’s work. Pigs are my purpose.
Chris Navarro
Fabricator and Farm Operations Manager
I’ve always been a builder: part artist, part problem-solver. My journey started in Connecticut and took root in Arizona when I moved there at age 10. That’s where my love for animals deepened and where I first explored my creative side, eventually falling in love with metalwork during a college welding art class. That one spark led to countless hours in the shop, mastering how to transform raw materials into structures that are both functional and beautiful.
I graduated from the University of Arizona with a BS in Care, Health, and Society, and went on to build a successful welding and fabrication business — but it was meeting Tess, and stepping into the world of pig rescue, that gave my work a whole new purpose.
At Rise of the Pig, I channel my skills into creating safe, durable, and thoughtfully designed environments for our pigs — from custom shelters and fencing to enrichment structures and pig-specific tools. Everything I build is rooted in compassion, and engineered to support the well-being, comfort, and happiness of the animals in our care.
This isn’t just fabrication — it’s a form of advocacy. With every weld and design, I’m helping create a world where pigs are treated with the dignity they deserve. This work is more than a craft; it’s my calling.
Sarah Sullivan
Farm Hand
Sarah Sullivan joined Rise of the Pig after a career in the culinary world, bringing with her a strong work ethic and attention to detail. Though new to working with pigs, she has quickly proven to be a natural—building trust with the animals and developing a keen eye for their needs. Sarah is highly attentive, often the first to notice subtle changes in behavior or health, helping ensure early intervention and consistent care.
In addition to her connection with the animals, Sarah takes great pride in maintaining the grounds, creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for both residents and visitors. All the people of Rise of the Pig are proudly supervised by her 5-year-old daughter, Olivia, who keeps a watchful eye on both the people and the animals around the rescue.
Sarah’s dedication and intuitive approach make her an invaluable part of the team.
Olivia
Honorary Supervisor
Olivia, age 5, is the honorary supervisor at Rise of the Pig, where she expertly manages a diverse team of humans, pigs, and dogs. Known for her strong leadership style and zero tolerance for nonsense, Olivia ensures daily operations run smoothly. We rely on her as head of quality control (blanket fluffiness and mud levels), staff morale (hug distribution), and interspecies relations (pigs vs. dogs negotiations). Olivia is just an all around boss and we would be lost without her.

We're always looking for kind-hearted, hard-working volunteers to help us care for the pigs, or just spend time with them squeezing snoots and giving belly rubs! We are currently offering volunteer opportunities, and tour days on the farm. Learn more on visiting Rise of the Pig below.
