Penny’s journey has been anything but easy. She arrived as a very sickly piglet, brought in as a foster, and immediately made it clear she wasn’t feeling great—physically or emotionally. Struggling with severe skin issues, recurring pneumonia, and a general distrust of the world, Penny spent her first months in our dining room, far from the other pigs. She had her own special indoor tent, and frankly, she needed it—because Penny bit everyone.

But over time, and with a lot of patience, love, and veterinary care, Penny slowly began to heal. And then, one magical day, she was ready. She moved in with the rest of the herd, and something in her shifted. While she’s still shy and often timid, Penny has blossomed into a pig who, when she’s in the moo, can be an absolute delight. She chooses her moments, and she chooses her people, but when she opens up, it’s something truly special.

Just don’t bring dogs around. The dogs are the bane of her existence, and she makes sure they know exactly how unwelcome they are.

Penny is proof that healing doesn’t happen all at once—but it does happen, in quiet steps and unexpected moments of trust.
