Babs came into our lives during a hoarding case in North Carolina. Amid the chaos, I locked eyes with this squatty, chubby pig, and instantly knew she was coming home with me. With her long, dramatic eyelashes, Babs had a softness about her, even if she looked a little dazed by the world.
She’s doofy, a bit lost most of the time, but also endlessly sweet and gentle. We brought her home and, as responsible pig parents, scheduled her spay… only to discover that Babs was very much expecting—and due in just a few weeks. So, we leaned into the surprise and happily prepared to become grandparents.
Babs went on to give birth to eight healthy piglets, and in a rare and beautiful twist, she now gets to live out her days with her entire family intact, a luxury most pigs never know.
She may not be the sharpest snout in the herd, but Babs is a loving mother, a beautiful soul, and a daily reminder that sometimes the best things in life come when you least expect them.
