Meet the Salt Point Quartet — Harlan, Herschel, Constance, and Josephine — four inseparable survivors from one of the largest and most heartbreaking rescue efforts we’ve ever been part of.
These four were among 68 pigs rescued from a severe hoarding case in Salt Point, NY, where they were running feral on a 20-acre property with no food, no shelter, and no vet care. All the females were pregnant, many were ill, and none had ever known what safety or kindness felt like. Over time, every one of those 68 pigs found a new home… except for these four.
Harlan and Herschel (brothers) and Constance and Josephine (sisters) were just piglets when they came into our care — scared, underweight, and unsure of the world. Though they’ve grown up in a safe, loving environment, they’ve held on to some of their natural wariness. They are what we lovingly call “slow to warm” — a little more skittish, a little more feral, and definitely not the first to line up for belly rubs.
But behind their cautious eyes are curious minds and gentle souls. They’ve come a long way, and we believe they still have more room to grow, especially with the right, patient adopter.
In a perfect world, we’d love to see all four adopted together — they know each other, trust each other, and thrive as a group. But we’d also consider adopting them out in their bonded pairs: Harlan & Herschel, and Constance & Josephine.
They may not be lap pigs, but they deserve a quiet, safe home where they can just be pigs — rooting, sunbathing, and learning to trust at their own pace.
They are survivors. They are a little wild. And they are still waiting for their happily ever after.
